Simple landscape forms complement and integrate architecture and natural setting. . . Play of textures and shapes harmonizes with the house. . . Low-key, relaxed, invites outdoors in.
2004 Professional Awards Jury Comments

Embedded within a gentle knoll on a five acre wooded site outside Charlotte, this house and garden reflect the clients’ desire to live a life connected to the land around them. The landscape architects worked very closely with the client from the outset to incorporate a site program of walking and hiking trails, a swimming pool, an entrance drive and court, as well as areas for locating outdoor sculpture into a tightly woven plan. The embrace of natural light, specific site orientations, and tree preservation were fundamental to the site plan. The result is a relatively simple ensemble of building, garden, and landscape that reinforces seamless connections between outside and inside.
